Months after Sarah recommended that I read Elizabeth Gilbert's Eat, Pray, Love, I have finally taken her advise. And already, it has proven worthwhile. Although I'm still only on the first section, which covers the author's trip to Italy (the other two span over India and Indonesia), it has already stirred up something in me, and not only a jealousy of Remy and her pasta and polenta parties. It has re-invigorated me. I have been in a rut. My classes have ended, I don't have any finals, everyone else is busy studying, and it has been raining for too long. After days of moping around, unsure of how to fill my days, I picked up the book and began to read. And suddenly, only 78 pages in, I can feel excitement again, and it feels so good!
I have done many things during my time so far in Australia, exploring not only Sydney and New South Wales but other cities and states as well, chasing after kangaroos and tasting wines in Western Australia, and diving with turtles up in Queensland. But one thing, which I have always known (thanks to growing up in New York City) but had subsequently forgotten, is that there is always more to see, and always more to do. So here is my declaration: I am finished moping around! The weather is beautiful; perfect blue skies and a very hot sun. I am going to head out and explore this city again and the surrounding areas for my last two weeks. My explorations start tomorrow morning, with Darlinghurst and Surry Hills. This afternoon I googled museums, vintage shops, art galleries, and brunch spots (I never have been one to leave things up to spontaneity...) and have made up a list of things I'd like to see. Sometimes it just takes a wake up call to remind oneself of how lucky we are, living in a beautiful, cosmopolitan, foreign city. So once again, I am off! Here I go.
p.s. happy halloween!

How lovely! Your enthusiasm shows and that great writer's voice returns....
