getting ready

This is so exciting! I received an email from IES today that I have been approved for the courses I requested:

1) FOOD1230 (Food Psychology)
2) ARTS1190 (Australian Legends)
4) ENVS2030 (Australian Cultural & Social Environments)
5) ENGL2520 (Twentieth-century Australian Literature)

6) MSCI0501 (The Marine Environment)

I'm going to end up taking three of those, since I've also applied for a psych internship. Plus, it looks like I may only have class Monday through Wednesday! Yes!

Here's what I've been doing in prep for the trip (3.5 weeks!):
1) Learning to drive (yeah yeah...i know)
2) Taking a scuba certification class (so i can dive at the Great Barrier Reef!)
3) Watching absurd amounts of Bizzare Foods with Andrew Zimmern
4) Reading travel books ("Getting Stoned with Savages: A Trip Through the Islands of Fiji and Vanuatu" and "In a Sunburned Country")

"Australia is the world's sixth largest country and its largest island. It is the only island that is also a continent, and the only continent that is also a country. It is the only nation that began as a prison. It is the home of the largest living thing on earth, the Great Barrier Reef, and of the largest monolith, Ayer's Rock. It has more things that will kill you than anywhere else. Of the world's ten most poisonous snakes, all are Australian."

  1. a) everything in Australia is poisonous and new zealand only has cute fuzzy animals;
    b) you must take marine enivronment!!! You're going diving so it'll be perfect! Plus I'm taking oceans and atmosphere next sem, we can compare and teach other interesting things!
    (and the sad part is I am not being sarcastic)
